thoughts about bojack horseman the show

1. how much i relate to diane

- we are both asian

- we can both relate to the female experience

- she is a writer

- she feels a disconnect between her asian heritage and the american culture that she has grown up in. she tries to bridge the gap, but feels like a tourist in the country where she feels she is supposed to feel the most comfortable in.

- she cuts her hair to signal important changes in her life

- she moves from the west to the midwest

- she is actively dealing with her mental health and how it affects not only her, but the people around her

- glasses

2. the themes of the show and how important they are

- absolutely cannot list off all the themes but there are many and they are all very good

3. the writing of the show!!!!! the foreshadowing, the puns, the wordplay, the careful character development

- again. cannot list all. listen. the writing is impeccable. the characters are nuanced and full of personality. what more can i say

- i will never ever be over the way they tackled generational trauma

4. the detail in the animation and amazing usage of symbols!!!!!!

- every single frame of this show is chockful of references and careful foreshadowing. as someone who absolutely despises rewatching media i do not feel like rewatching, a second viewing of this show was almost even better than the first

5. niche representation

- ace todd, not perfect, but so much better than what we've gotten in the last few years (the show explains that asexuality is when people don't want to have sex. this isn't true, but is a common misconception. when someone says that they are asexual, what they mean is that they don't feel sexual attraction to other people. they can still have sex, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they feel attracted to the people they have sex with. however, the way the show portrays todd trying to find a partner who is also asexual was very nice to see, and todd and maude's interactions felt very normal and comfortable to me, as an ace person)

- diane, an asian lead

- several prominent female characters that are their own people, but are still distinctly female in a way that doesn't feel at odds with the male characters or feel out of place (princess caroline, diane again yes she is my favorite character, sarah lynn, hollyhock, etc etc)
